Missing out on this great (and free) opportunity to market your company and services through YouTube is a great mistake. Imagine if some real estate mogul would allow you to post and play your marketing videos right in the heart of NYC, Times Square, for FREE!! Think about how many viewers and impressions you would get! Well, YouTube is doing just that, except that your potential viewers and impressions are huge and worldwide compared to the relatively limited viewership that you would get at NYC’s Times Square display.

So, now that you’re convinced about using Video Marketing, the next question is “How do I make sure that my videos are effective?” And you’re right. Simply uploading a video to YouTube will not do much unless you follow some basic rules.

Create Unique Content

Your videos don’t need to go “viral” to generate a large number of views. They just need to provide “unique” information about your subject matter that will engage the viewers, and prompt them to share them with their friends and colleagues. When your videos are shared or “liked” they will also rank higher not just on YouTube search results, but also across all other search engines. This in turn, will bring more visitors to your website and add “authority” and online reputation to your business.

Include a description with your primary keywords

YouTube is the Internet second largest search engine (behind Google, which coincidentally, owns YouTube). Make sure to include a proper Title, and Description to your video and that both of them include your primary keywords. You can also add tags to your videos with the same keywords to increase their visibility and rankings in search results.

Distribute Your Videos Through Social Media Channels

Once you have posted your video on YouTube, the next step is to share and distribute the same video through all of your social media channels. Add it to your Facebook page, your Twitter feed, take a screen shot and post it on Pinterest, link to it from your own website, etc. All of these channels will result in exponential traffic for your business website. Your online marketing will be much more effective and your ROI will grow while social media sharing will do some of the marketing for you.

Track Your Results

Google Analytics will allow you to track how many visitors come to your website, not just from YouTube, but from any of the other Social Media pages were your video is posted. It will show as a “Referral” traffic metric when you analyze your reports, and you will immediately see how your overall traffic increases as your videos become more popular over time.

YouTube Analytics shows what your audience likes (and doesn’t). Use what you learn to tune up your videos so they have the greatest impact with the customers you want most.
